Centrifugal casting challenges the position of forging ?

Taiwan’s Centrifugal Casting Manufacturer, LAWAI to Challenge the Position of Forging in the Industry

October 31, 2016 10:20 PM Eastern Daylight Time

TAIPEI, Taiwan--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The high-performance material department of LAWAI Industrial Corporation has found out the mechanical properties of 17-4 PH stainless steel manufactured by centrifugal casting are equivalent to those by forging.

According to Patrina Tsai, The VP of LAWAI INDUSTRIAL CORPORATION, the performance of 17-4 PH stainless steel produced by LAWAI has surpassed their expectations. LAWAI authorized SGS Taiwan to test the 17-4 PH stainless steel produced by centrifugal casting. The reports of impact and tension tests showed the mechanical properties were not only up to the standards the customers requested but also excellent as forging.

Based on the knowledge of materials, the yield strength decreases when the impact energy increases. However, LAWAI overcame this problem. Both charpy impact energy and toughness of 17-4 PH stainless steel were high by centrifugal casting in the SGS reports. The average charpy impact energy of the testing specimens was over 50 Joules/cm2 equivalents to forging at the same temperature.

The development of 17-4 PH stainless steel manufactured by LAWAI represents their stability of manufacture and the stage in the centrifugal casting industry. Since centrifugal casting products are clean, dense with fined-grained structures and low quantity production is possible, the global buyers who used to prefer forging will have another good choice when taking the cost into account.
