Manufacturing stainless steel rings by centrifugal casting
In recent months, several customers inquired our stainless steel rings of different types. Therefore, we would like to introduce our stainless steel rings again for whom is also interested in our stainless steel rings manufactured by centrifugal casting technique.
Stainless steel ring is one of the popular products of centrifugal casting. When it comes to centrifugal casting, most people think of stainless steel tubes instead of stainless steel rings. However, stainless steel rings are from tubes. The stainless steel rings are cut from one-piece construction tubes produced by horizontal centrifuge. And larger diameter stainless steel rings are able to be produced by vertical centrifuges directly. So, what is the difference between horizontal and vertical centrifuges? Why using different machines to produce stainless steel rings?
When the outer diameter of stainless steel rings is large and the length is short, the vertical centrifuge would be considered first. Once the stainless steel rings are with the smaller diameter, horizontal centrifuge should be used.
For example, stainless steel ring with OD 400 mm are produced by vertical centrifuge in the normal condition.
The advantages of stainless steel rings produced by centrifugal casting
Non-impurities, non-pores and customized diameters
Regarding non-pores of stainless steel rings:
Before mass production, customers often order the stainless steel rings of the small batch then conducting X-ray inspection. The feedbacks from customers are always good and the stainless steel rings are without the porosities that meet their expectations.
Why the pores would not happen on stainless steel rings manufactured by centrifugal casting?
Because the cooling process of centrifugal casting is from the outside to the inside diameter, the pores would not be generated from the directional cooling process.
Regarding non-impurities of stainless steel rings:
Why the stainless steel rings without impurities ? Because the casting method of centrifugal casting is far different from static casting. When melting, some impurities would be removed initially. Then, the metal liquid is poured into the mold and the mold is rotated by high speed. The impurities with lower densities would be moved to the inner diameter of the tube. Those unwanted matters could be removed by simple machining. (This is the concept of the twice refinery) .
With regard to customized diameter of stainless steel rings:
The customized diameter of stainless steel ring is one of the advantages of centrifugal casting. LAWAI owns comprehensive molds and we use those molds produce stainless steel rings with various diameters. Therefore, centrifugal casting is suitable for all new projects.
Rough machined stainless steel rings
Customers who purchase our stainless steel rings are from various industries including automobile, valve...etc. These customers have the excellent machining capabilities, but there is no casting department at their companies. So, they purchase various stainless steel rings from us as their blank materials.
More and more customers prefer purchasing our stainless steel tubes (The length is around 1~2m) back instead of stainless steel rings. They would like to use and machine these tubes freely.
The source of stainless steel rings – choosing centrifugal casting or round bar?
Some customers used to purchase stainless steel round bars then drilling and cutting them by themselves to make stainless steel rings. They gradually changed the procurement plan. They prefer purchasing stainless steel rings made by our centrifugal casting directly. Because the remaining material after perforation would get stuck in machines or become waste. In order to make the production process smoothly and conveniently, purchasing centrifugally cast stainless steel rings is the better choice in customer’s pint of view.
In addition, the prices of centrifugally cast stainless steel rings are lower than round bars once the stainless steel rings are with larger inner and outer diameters.
So, choosing centrifugally cast stainless steel rings or round bars to make rings?
It should depend on the dimensions of the stainless steel rings you need and the process of further machining.
