In addition to INCOLOY 800H tubes, INCOLOY 800HT is another superalloy material we developed successfully.
INCOLOY 800HT is a variant of INCOLOY 800H. The chemical composition of the two materials is almost the same actually. However, the proportion of carbon, aluminum plus titanium of INCOLOY 800HT is more restrictive than INCOLOY 800H. (The range of the carbon is 0.06~ 0.10% and the range of the Al+Ti is 0.85~1.20%)
Now you might have one question, why we need INCOLOY 800HT ? Is it better than INCOLOY 800H?
The answer is “yes.” The designer changed the proportions of carbon, aluminum and titanium to create the INCOLOY 800HT to increase the creep strength in the high temperature.
Therefore, there are 800, 800H, and 800HT in 800 family now.
We should choose INCOLOY 800H or INCOLOY 800HT centrifugally cast tubes?
Several customers purchased INCOLOY 800H centrifugally cast tubes from us first, they purchased INCOLOY 800HT tubes to replace 800H then. The reason is INCOLOY 800HT performs the higher creep strength and the longer lifetime.
In UNS, 800H doe not meet the standards of the 800HT. However, 800HT are included in the UNS 800H.
INCOLOY 800H and INCOLOY 800HT are very suitable for being applied in the high temperature environment for a long time because both of them have the superior oxidation and creep resistance under high temperature conditions. Therefore, 800H and 800HT centrifugally cast tubes have been applied in industrial furnaces widely. The tubes used for furnaces we call them radiant tubes. ( In addition to 800H and 800HT, LAWAI also manufactures other high temperature alloys used for radiant tubes such as ASTM A297 HK, HP, HH, HU…etc.)
In the petrochemical industry, 800H and 800HT centrifugally cast tubes are as catalyst and pyrolysis tubes.
The quality of these tubes is much higher than radiant tubes. Before customers place the order, they would come to LAWAI to do the foundry audit and a series of inspection. The lengths of the catalyst and pyrolysis tubes are usually longer than 3,000 mm. To develop and produce those tubes successfully and meet the customers’ strict demands, spending time and energy is necessary.
In 800 alloy family, which mechanical properties are better? Is INCOLOY 800 or INCILOY 800H or INCOLOY 800HT?
In normal condition, INCOLOY 800’s mechanical properties are higher than INCOLOY 800H and INCOLOY 800HT in the room temperature. But, exposing to high temperature for a long time is another story. INCOLOY 800H and INCOLOY 800HT would perform extraordinary creep resistance strength that INCOLOY 800 could not reach.
The comparison between stainless steel and INCOLOY800H/800HT
Stainless steel 304 is one of the stainless steel used widely, therefore customers made the mistake to use SS304 in the high temperature environment in the past. The results of misuse were the SS304 tubes corrosive and bended.
Here we would like to show everyone the difference between SS304 and INCOLOY 800H samples put into the furnace in the 870-1150°C for 3 months.
In the table below, it stated that SS304 sample oxidized fully. However, INCOLOY 800H/800HT sample was just affected a little bit. The corrosive rate 6 mil which means the corrosive depth was 0.15 mm/y after 3 months. The evidence is from “The story of the “INCOLOY® alloys series,” from 800, through 800H, 800HT® “ of SPECIAL METALS.
Thus, we always tell customers “ please select heat-resistant centrifugally cast tubes to apply in the high temperature condition for a quite long time.”
